Year 2 Elm

Welcome to Year 2 Elm page

I hope you all had an amazing Summer and all of the Key Stage 1 staff are so excited to welcome you back for another year. 

Our main method of communication is through Class Dojo so please check on their to have a look at our super learning. You can also look at our Facebook and Twitter pages to see what we are up to. 

Our PE day is on a Thursday so please ensure children come into school wearing their PE kit. 

Please ensure book bags are in school daily. Books will be changed twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please encourage your children to read at home. 

Your child will be provided with a water bottle in school. 


Please ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Little Wandle - Phonics

 The phonetically decodable books have been carefully matched to your child’s phonic phase. If your child is reading it with little help, please don’t worry that it’s too easy – your child needs to develop fluency and confidence in reading. Please listen to them read the book. Remember to give your child lots of praise and celebrate their success! If they can’t read a word, read it to them. After your child has finished, talk about the book together.

Please remember to log in to our online resource tools such as TT Rockstars and Numbots. Log in details are in the front of your child’s reading record. Please speak to a member of staff if you need support accessing them.  

Science

This half term, our focus will be the uses of Investigations. The children will:

Ask simple questions and understand that they can be answered in different ways.
Identify and classify.
Use their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions.
 

Children are the masters of exploration and investigation, showing a curiosity about their environment. These skills are an important factor in learning about themselves and the world in which they live. Areas and objects can spark a child’s curiosity and allow them to use a range of senses to investigate. This leads them to gain knowledge and experience, supporting their development further.

Wider Curriculum

History

Our topic this half term has a History focus. The children will be learning about The Great Fire of London.

RE

In RE this term the children will be thinking about Muslims.

The children will

Reflect - by recognising that loving others is important in lots of communities.

Evaluate - by giving examples of ways in which people express their identity and belonging within faith communities and other communities responding sensitively to differences.

Interpreting/Empathising - by talking about the emotions of Jesus’ followers during Holy Week and matching emotions to different characters at different times.

In Art & Design the children will be learning about the British designer William Morris.
