Welcome to the Year 5/6 Oak Page  

Welcome to class Y5/6 Oak! We hope you have all had a lovely half term and had a good rest. It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school after a week off! We have an action packed and exciting half term ahead of us!

Our PE days are Thursday and Friday - please ensure you have your full PE kit in school on these days. 

Homework is given out on a Friday to be handed in the following Wednesday.

English

This half term we are going to be reading 'The Arrival' by Shaun Tan. The children will also be producing an information text about endangered animals which links to our 'Living Things and Their Habitats' science topic. We will be including the grammatical objectives for Year 5 and 6. We will also be learning a selection of poems from the book 'Please Mrs Butler' by Allan Ahlberg.

Maths

This half term we will be focusing on Fractions. The children will learn how to find equivalent fractions alongside adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.

Science

In Science this half term we will be learning about Living Things and thier Habitats. This includes learning about the life cycles of animals and plants and how they differ. 

Wider Curriculum

  • Our topic his half term is Poland. We will be looking at all the wonderful geographical features that can be found there.  
  • In R.E we will be looking at the question 'For Christians, what kind of king is Jesus?'                                                                                            
  • In DT, the children will be looking at stable structures and be creating their own minature playground structure.
  • Our Christian value this half term is Friendship. We will be discussing big questions such as, 'what makes a good friend?' and 'why is friendship important?'.
  • Our P.E days are  Monday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has a full kit on these days. This half term we will be focusing on Rugby and Dance.
