“Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential”

Early Years Curriculum Overview

In the Early Years Unit at Radcliffe Hall, we plan a range of topics over a two-year cycle to ensure the children develop their skills and achieve their full potential. Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning overtime.

Our bespoke Early Years curriculum challenges children and encourages them to develop into independent learners, with lots of opportunities to make choices and learning through trial and error and who are confident in a range of activities and situations.

We are a committed, passionate and enthusiastic EYFS team which includes full-time teachers and Teaching Assistants. Our practice is continually evolving as we strive to provide the best for the children within our school. We firmly believe that children grow, develop and learn more rapidly in the earlier years of their lives. Therefore, in partnership with parents and carers, we want to ensure that each child blossoms to their full potential by paying close attention to their individual needs, interests, passions and focus our time on supporting each child in achieving their full potential.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is based on seven areas of learning:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Creative Development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • These skills and competencies will enable them to cope with the demands of later schooling and life generally.

Children are encouraged to explore, enquire and to take risks through active learning environments both indoors and outdoors. This includes the use of interactive whiteboards and high-quality learning resources.
