Little Wandle - Phonics

Children accessing Little Wandle phonics will have reading books set on line via Collins Big Cat ebooks. The phonetically decodable books have been carefully matched to your child’s phonic phase. If your child is reading it with little help, please don’t worry that it’s too easy – your child needs to develop fluency and confidence in reading. Please listen to them read the book. Remember to give your child lots of praise and celebrate their success! If they can’t read a word, read it to them. After your child has finished, talk about the book together.

Our focus in maths this half term will be:

  • Fractions
  • Position and direction

Please remember to log in to our online resource tools such as TT Rockstars and Numbots. Log in details are in the front of your child’s reading record. Please speak to a member of staff if you need support accessing them.

This half term, our focus will be the uses of Everyday Materials. The children will:

  • Ask simple questions and understand that they can be answered in different ways.
  • Identify and classify.
  • Use their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions.

Children need to have experience of, and explore as many different materials (substances) as possible to make sense of their world. Understanding how materials behave in their natural state and under certain conditions will help them to understand why objects are made of specific materials.
