Our Christian value of COMMUNITY can be demonstrated and understood by children very easily by the way in which they all wear the same, consistent uniform. We feel that uniform instils pride, a sense of identity and supports the ethos of Radcliffe Hall Primary School as well as providing good value for money for parents. Children wearing full school uniform always look smart and ready to learn thanks to your support.
Uniform is important for several reasons:
· It provides parents/carers with a low cost solution to every day clothing.
· It ensures that all pupils are practically dressed for school.
· It gives children a sense of pride and belonging.
· Putting the correct uniform on each morning shows that you are ready for the school day, helping you to follow our key school rules of Ready, Respectful, Safe.
· It helps children to get ready for the next stage in their education as many of our local high schools have strict uniform policies.

Jewellery

Watches
Stud earrings
Hairstyles and headwear
Long hair must be tied up during practical lessons, e.g. during PE.
The following hairstyles, hair colours and headwear are not considered appropriate for school:
· Brightly-coloured dyed hair
· Headwear with bold patterns or colours – headwear worn for religious reasons should be all black, all grey or all royal blue
· Excessive hair accessories – eg large bows, flowers, cat ears etc
· Headwear featuring inappropriate words or images
Shoes
Shoes must be all black with no additional colour. They must not have heels.
PE Days
Pupils may wear PE kit all day on their PE days. These days will be communicated to you at the start of the year by your child’s class teacher. PE uniform is still uniform and we will not be allowing pupils to wear football kit, different coloured t-shirts etc. Black sweat pants/joggers can be bought extremely inexpensively at supermarkets (eg at ASDA where they cost no more than £8). Pupils can wear a polo shirt with these or an uncollared plain white t-shirt. They still need to wear their school jumper on PE days and should not wear other jumpers/hoodies/sweat shirts instead. On PE days pupils should either wear all black trainers or their school shoes and bring their trainers into school if they do not have all black trainers. Pupils will not be allowed to wear shoes that are not all black other than in their actual PE lesson.
Jewellery
Jewellery other than plain stud earrings and a watch must not be worn in school. This is for safety and security reasons and no exceptions can be made. Pupils wearing jewellery other than this will be asked to remove it and it will be kept securely until the end of the day when it is returned to parents/carers.
Hair and Headwear
If your child has long hair please consider tying it back for safety and hygiene reasons – although we understand that for some children this can cause sensory issues. Please note that hair ties, bobbles, head bands and slides should be as plain as possible and we will not be allowing large bows, flowers, cat ears etc. We will also not be allowing brightly-coloured hair dye.
The school reserves the right to make a judgement on whether a pupil’s hairstyle, hair colour or headwear is inappropriate for the school environment; however, the school will ensure that any such judgements do not discriminate against any pupil by virtue of their protected characteristics. Each individual pupil’s scenario will be taken into account where any judgements on appropriateness are to be made, and parents will always have the freedom to complain via the school’s Complaints Procedures Policy.
If your child wears headwear for cultural or religious reasons then please ensure that it is all one colour - black, grey or royal blue to fit in with our uniform.
Pupils with SEN
If your child has sensory issues with any item of school uniform – eg shoes. This should be discussed with Mrs Cook and an agreement can be made. This could be as simple as your child having a pair of slippers in school to change into – saving their all black school shoes for wearing outside. We want to work with you to ensure that your child is being Ready, Respectful and Safe but that we are also working with any sensory needs that they may have.
Non-Compliance
If your child does not come into school in uniform we will have a spare stock that we will ask you to change them into. We will then ask them to change back at the end of the day. We understand that sometimes washing machines break and other issues can occasionally cause problems with ensuring your child is in uniform so want to support you with this. If your child repeatedly comes into school without uniform we will ask you to send a set of uniform in for them to change into when they arrive at school. We will also have a stock of shoes that we will ask you to change children into if they come in shoes other than all black shoes. They will then change back at the end of the day.
